Shield Winners - 1999

History

Groes applied to join the Summer League in 1992 with a team based on Groes village, part of this area was within the Henllan catchment, Henllan, to their credit, agreed to release this area. The League's Executive Committee were keen to allow Groes more area to strengthen the team and also to tidy up the catchment area, and for these purposes, they extended the Groes catchment area up to the Llanrhaeadr boundary to include Nantglyn and also up to Bryntrillyn to include Bylchau and Clwt.

Unfortunately Groes did not have a home pitch and they played their first season on the Denbigh Mental pitch and then later they played at Denbigh Rugby Club. They lost that pitch and they applied to Denbighshire County Council for the use of a Council's pitch at Lower Park; DCC agreed to their request but only if they changed the club's name to Nantglyn F.C., which was in the County and Groes was in Conwy. Fortunately the Club found a friendly local farmer and they now play their home games in Nantglyn
.

Nantglyn as their record suggests have had a golden period in their history recently, winning the League in season 2005 and 2006 and Runners-up in 2008.
