The 2011 Annual General Meeting
The League's Annual General Meeting for 2011 will be held in the Rhewl Pavilion at 7:30pm on Wednesday October 5th.
The Behrens Cup
Bad news I'm afraid The Behrens Cup which has been used as the League Championship Trophy since 1927 has been stolen from the Hawk and Buckle Inn at Llannefydd. Cefn FC reported this to the Executive Committee prior to the presentation to the League Champions - Llandyrnog at the Champions against the 'Rest-of-the-League' team on July 27th.
The matter has been reported to the Police and reports have been included in the Denbighshire Free Press, Liverpool Daily Post and Radio Cymru. The Cefn club has offered a reward of £250 for the return of the Trophy
Champions versus 'Rest-of-the-League'
The annual match of the League Champions against a team selected from the rest of the other clubs was played in Llandyrnog on Thursday 28th July at 7:30pm
The team selected on behalf of the Rest of the League consists of mainly youngsters with a sprinkling of experienced players; the squad played extremely well, particularly after a shaky start when they went 2 goals down, they fought back to give the Champions a good game. Final score 3-1
Dave Evans, (Cefn) Robin Jones, Geraint Jones (both Nantglyn)
Ifan Hafal (Llangynhafal)
Steve Roberts, Rob Williams, Simon McGrath (all Llanfair) ,
Elgan Roberts, Edward Jones, Adam Williams (all Henllan)
Bryn Jones (Rhewl)
Matty Palin, Rob Raynor (both Ysceifiog)
SHIELD FINAL
LLANDYRNOG ACHIEVE THE DOUBLE!!!
An excellent match was watched by nearly 400 people who saw Llandyrnog achieve a well deserved double when they added the Knockout Shield to their League Championship triumph. They beat Nantglyn 4-2 in a good game to record their seventeenth Shield victory and their eleventh Double - by far and away the best record in the history of our League.
Josh Davies scored three goals to confirm him as the winner of the Golden Boot with 28 goals - surely the youngest winner of this coveted award. Lucas Cruz scored the other goal for Llandyrnog whilst Geraint and Bryn Jones scored for Nantglyn. Danny Porter was voted as the Man-of-the-match to cap an outstanding season for Llandyrnog.
Below is a photo of the Llandyrnog squad before the match.

Standing: Phil Hinchcliffe, John Jones, Scott Lyons, Craig Jones, Josh Davies, Iain Robertson, Dan Roberts, Emyr Jones, Aaron Hughes Jimmy McNally
Kneeling: Tom Evans, Dan Porter, Michael Evans, Tudur Morris, Daniel Jones, Russ Moorcroft, Lucas Cruz, Malcolm Hughes
SHIELD SEMIS
1st SEMI IN LLANFAIR on MONDAY NIGHT AT 7PM
An excellent match between two competitive teams saw Nantglyn take the lead through a Gareth Lewis goal in the first half, but during a period of sustained pressure from Llanfair in the second half, Dylan Pugh scored the equalising goal for Llanfair. The game went into extra time and as the large crowd looked expectantly to a penalty shoot-out, Gareth Lewis stepped forward to score a tremendous thirty yard goal to clinch the tie for Nantglyn
2nd SEMI IN LLANRHAEADR ON TUESDAY AT 7PM
Another tremendous semifinal between arch-rivals Llandyrnog and Llanrhaeadr saw the League Champions deservedly beat their rivals by 3 goals to 1. Another large crowd saw Llandyrnog take the lead through Lucas Cruz only for man-of-the match Chris Williams to score and take the match into extra time. Llandyrnog took control during this period and a further goal from Cruz and a cracker from Danny Porter clinched the tie.
In both ties the standard of refereeing was excellent and the League is once again grateful to our match officials for the sterling work they do throughout the season.

Ysceifiog FC have been deducted 6 points as a result of the cancellation of the game against Cefn on the 20th June at late notice. This deduction is in accordance with league rules and previous practice in such cases.
The League Executive Committee agreed that we should encourage clubs to contribute to the fund that has been set up to help the family of Ian Taylor who was on Henllan's books last season; his father and brother were tragically killed in a caravan fire Barmouth recently and his daughter was badly burned. Anyone willing to contribute please contact the Chairman or John O Roberts, League Treasurer. It is a very good cause so please help if you can.
Llangynhafal win the Junior 7-a-side
On Saturday July 2nd the Junior 7-a-side trophy was won by Llangynhafal; they beat holders Rhewl 1-0 in the final match. A record 15 teams entered the competition on a lovely afternoon with a large crowd enjoying some excellent football. The teams were divided into 4 groups and the winners were Llandyrnog A, Henllan, Ysceifiog A and Llangynhafal. In the semis Llangynhafal beat Llandyrnog A and Rhewl had to take Henllan to penalties to make the final.
In the final Rhewl had most of the play but with Ifan Hafal defending well for Llangynhafal and a fantastic goal by team-mate Tirion Roberts sealed the win for them to lift the Artisan Trophy.

Llandyrnog League Champions 2011
Llandyrnog v Cefn (2-0)
The Llandyrnog team triumphed last night by beating nearest rivals Cefn 2-0 to become League Champions for seventeenth time. Their first championship since 2000 was based on excellent team spirit and a number of outstanding performers throughout the season.
There was a large crowd at the match who saw two teams, rather nervously, play out this key match - the turning point came halfway through the second half when a defensive error allowed Josh Davies to slide home a very important goal. Both defences had outstanding games with Adam Lloyd being a colossus in the Llandyrnog back line. Cefn pressed hard for an equaliser and this possibly allowed Danny Roberts the space to score with a well taken goal. Possibly their endeavours the previous night in beating Ysceifiog finally told on the Cefn side who finished a well beaten side.
The referee Eifion Howatson had an excellent game and the celebrations continued late into the night in the Golden Lion to celebrate a well earned championship.
THE BIG MATCH
These are Shaun Davies prematch comments on the big match between Llandyrnog and Cefn
IT may seem like a strange statement to make, but title rivals Llandyrnog and Cefn both have their destiny in their own hands!
The top-two clash at Cae Nant tonight in the Llandyrnog and District Summer League's biggest match of the season and victory for Llandyrnog will hand them a first championship since 2000.
Despite being eight points adrift at present, defending champions Cefn also have their destiny in their own hands and victory on Thursday will aid their tilt at back-to-back titles.
Wins for Cefn in their last four games - against Llandyrnog, Ysceifiog, Clawddnewydd and Llanfair - will see them crowned as league champions.
Llandyrnog assistant boss Jimmy McNally said: "I think you would have to say we are pretty confident.
"We're on a high at the moment and Nantglyn is not an easy place to go.
"I think, in front of our home support and things, we are going to want to get it done and dusted (on the night) if we can.
"We have still got two games to play... but I think we have got to push for a win.
"I think we have played brilliant football this season and our tactics have worked."
Cefn's Dilwyn Roberts admitted on Tuesday: "I watched them (Llandyrnog) last night and they were strong.
"I would say it's going to be a tight affair and I think we have got to win.
"To keep it in our own hands, we have got to win.
"It will be a heck of an achievement this year if we do win it, with the points deductions."
Cefn will be at a disadvantage for Thursday's match as they will be without David Evans and Ali Parsonage, who both sit out one-match suspensions.
While Cefn have some suspension concerns, there are Llandyrnog injury worries surrounding influential midfielder Lucas Cruz.
He pulled out of Monday's game at Nantglyn shortly before the kick off and Llandyrnog will be hoping he is fit and available for the visit of Cefn.
Llandyrnog's Mally Hughes added: "It's up to us now to get a good result.
"I would like to wrap it up on Thursday!
"It will be a heck of a game on Thursday, I think."
Summer League figures believe that Llandyrnog will take this summer's championship.
Llanrhaeadr's Bryn Evans tipped Cefn to win the league before the start of the season... but he's now changed his mind!
"I think after a good win for Llandyrnog last night, it's a good win up there especially on that pitch.
"I thought that Nantglyn would take a point or two points off them.
"It's made it hard now for Cefn."
Henllan manager Chris Brown said: "I think it will be a really close game and a draw clearly favours Llandyrnog.
"I see more like a draw, because that suits Llandyrnog and you know maybe Llandyrnog get their noses in front and hang on."
Rhewl manager Pete Lloyd has no doubts where the title is heading.
"With the match on Thursday, it's going to be a draw and Llandyrnog are going to do it (win the league).
"I don't think Cefn can do it now."
Speaking on Tuesday, Nantglyn chairman Dei Bibby said: "Put it this way, on last night's performance I think Llandyrnog will beat Cefn and go on to win the league."
Caerwys boss John Owens added: "I would guess the winner of that game will go on and win the league.
"I think if Cefn get their full side out, they will just shade it, but it's going to be very close."

Final of Welsh Secondary Schools Competition
On Saturday 14th of May at the TNS ground - Park Hall Camp Oswestry the final of the Welsh Secondary Schools Under 18 competition took place between Ysgol Brynhyfryd Ruthin and Whitchurch Comprehensive Cardiff. The game was played on a synthetic pitch and with lively wind blowing the ball was difficult to control. The final score was 2-1 to the Cardiff side but most independent observers at the match considered that the Ruthin side were extremely unlucky to lose particulary as they hit the bar and post during the game.
There were many fine performances by Summer League Lads namely Josh Davies and Tomos Foulkes(Llandyrnog), Lewis Issac and Iolo Hughes(Rhewl), Ifan Hafal(Llangynhafal) and Joseph Parry (Clawddnewydd)
Registration Meeting Review
The new ruling on concessionary players kicked in at the Player Registration meetings. Any Club being allowed a player from outside their catchment area are deducted two points.
This means that Nantglyn start the season with -6 points; Caerwys, Cefn, Llanrhaeadr with -4 points and Clawddnewydd with -2 points.
Trefnant resign from the League
Following the match against Cefn on Tuesday evening, Trefnant decided to pull out of the Summer League. The manager of the club, Dave Bell, cited the main reason for their decision was the lack of committment from their registered players.
This is a great blow to the Summer League as Trefnant is one of the original member clubs when the League was founded in 1926 and are the second most succesful club in our history.
One can only hope that they will quickly reform to enable them to rejoin the league in future seasons to make use of the brand new changing facilities currently being built in the Village Hall.
At their meeting on Wednesday 4th May the Executive Committee accepted Trefnant's withdrawal from the League, with regret. All the results from their matches played, have been expunged.
2011 - Handbook
The Handbook is now available from your local club. This is the 4th season we have produced this document and our thanks go to Wendy Davies of the Ysceifiog club for all her hard and excellent work.
There are a few alterations to be made to the contents - in all fixture lists please replace Tuesday May 24th with Monday May 23rd. Also access the Clawddnewydd, Henllan, Llandyrnog and Llanfair pages for other alterations to those clubs' individual fixture list.
EGM - March 22nd, 2011
The main outcome of this meeting was that the long term concession granted to the Cefn club allowing them to register 4 players from the Llwyn Elwy and Bro Havard estates now becomes permanent.
2011 Season
